On 13 November 2025, Asari Legal together with Al Tamimi & Company, held a joint session as part of Dubai Arbitration Week, bringing together representatives of leading arbitration institutions, international law firms, expert organisations, as well as logistics companies and carriers. The discussion was moderated by Stanislav Karandasov, Partner in Asari Legal’s dispute resolution practice.
The event focused on the specifics of resolving transport disputes in the UAE, both in state courts and in arbitration.
Omar Omar, Partner at Al Tamimi & Co’s Transport & Insurance practice, spoke about the impact of global sanctions on logistics routes, the UAE’s growing role as a neutral international hub, and the increased compliance and transparency requirements following the country’s removal from the FATF grey list. He also explained the practical aspects of recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards in the UAE, highlighting procedural nuances practitioners should be aware of.
Neil Hart KC, Barrister at Essex Chambers, shared his extensive experience handling maritime disputes under English law. He emphasised the importance of precise drafting of arbitration clauses and discussed practical considerations when preparing to initiate a dispute.
Varvara Voinova, Counsel at Asari Legal, highlighted current trends in maritime dispute resolution in the UAE. She addressed the significance of the UAE Maritime Law 2023, practical issues around ship arrest, the use of bank guarantees and P&I certificates to lift an arrest, and Dubai’s position as one of the world’s leading maritime logistics centres.
The session concluded with a presentation by Bushra Abu Tayeh, Senior Counsel at Al Tamimi & Company’s Transport & Insurance practice, who outlined the specifics of aviation disputes. She discussed arbitration clauses in aircraft leasing agreements, interim measures in relation to aircraft, and practical aspects of interacting with aviation and port authorities.
