Dispute Resolution International Arbitration International Litigation

Irina is an associate in Asari Legal’s Dispute Resolution practice. She focuses on international arbitration as well as international and Russian court proceedings. She has experience representing clients in arbitration under the ICC, SIAC, LCIA, ICSID AF, and other institutional rules.

International commercial arbitration

Representing:

  • a Russian natural gas producer in a SIAC arbitration over the termination of a supply contract
  • a major natural gas exporter in arbitration proceedings arising out of gas supply contracts governed by Swedish law
  • a large Russian mining company in an LCIA arbitration of a corporate dispute
  • a leading Russian gas producer in LCIA arbitrations concerning option agreements, with claims totalling EUR 5 billion

Advising:

  • Russian and German companies of a major Russian industrial group in connection with potential ICAC and DIS arbitrations arising from breaches of supply contracts by Brazilian purchasers
International investment arbitration

Representing/advising:

  • a client in an international investment dispute against a sovereign state under the Rules of the Additional Facility of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID AF)
  • a major Swiss company in connection with ongoing arbitration proceedings under the Energy Charter Treaty, with claims amounting to several billion US dollars
  • a Russian investor on a UNCITRAL arbitration against a Western European state concerning the alleged expropriation of investments
International litigation

Representing/advising:

  • a private client in several high-profile criminal investigations in the EU, in which investigative measures—unprecedented in both scale and media exposure—were found unlawful
  • a private client in an EU Member State in a dispute against a subsidiary of a major European bank, seeking liability for losses caused by breaches of banking services agreements and bank secrecy obligations
  • a private client in a mutual agreement procedure under a double tax treaty between Russia and an EU Member State in connection with tax claims amounting to approximately EUR 500 million
  • a major Russian airline in the Frankfurt am Main court proceedings to recover payments under a services agreement
  • a major Russian airline in the Tel Aviv court proceedings to recover payments under an agency agreement
Russian litigation

Representing:

  • a major engineering and construction company in a dispute concerning environmental damage caused by the disposal of a vessel in the Caspian Sea
Reputation recovery

Advising: 

  • a private client in a series of judicial and pre-trial proceedings in EU jurisdictions regarding the protection of the client’s honour, dignity, and business reputation in the face of past and current defamatory publications
  • a private client before law enforcement authorities in an EU Member State (including filing a criminal complaint), as well as in several other jurisdictions, in connection with a coordinated defamation campaign conducted via an anonymous Telegram channel
