Varvara Voynova is a counsel in Asari Legal’s Dispute Resolution practice. She focuses on international arbitration, international and Russian litigations, sanctions-related advisory, investigations, and asset tracking and recovery.
Varvara has also taken part in numerous corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions and capital markets transactions.

International litigation
Representing:
- a major Russian business group in British Virgin Islands courts in a USD 1 billion dispute arising from disagreements over the terms and operations of its power generation joint venture
- a prominent Russian businessman and several foreign companies challenging USD 3 billion worth of freezing orders in British Virgin Islands courts; we successfully obtained a discharge of the injunctions, later upheld by the appellate court
- a prominent Russian businessman and affiliated foreign companies in two anti-suit injunction proceedings in courts of all instances in several Caribbean states, resulting in the Privy Council’s dismissal of both injunction applications
- a Russian private business group in Cypriot and Swiss proceedings to challenge interim relief and a disclosure order and obtain an anti-suit injunction
- a private business group in preparing for arbitration against a Central Asian state concerning investments in the oil and gas sector
International commercial arbitration
Representing:
- a Cypriot company in a multi-jurisdictional minority-oppression dispute arising out of a JV shareholder agreement with British Virgin Islands entities in the light of specifics of Cypriot corporate law, spanning Switzerland, Cyprus, Russia, and in parallel LCIA arbitration
- a major Russian business group in two ICC arbitrations
- a Russian business group in an LCIA arbitration for breach of a shareholder agreement and damages exceeding USD 500 million
- Russian and German subsidiaries of a leading global producer of carbon and graphite on prospective ICAC and DIS arbitrations regarding alleged breaches of supply agreements
Investigations
Representing:
- a major power generation company in investigations and court proceedings in Cyprus and Singapore aimed at obtaining evidence for use in Russian litigation, including securing multiple Norwich Pharmacal disclosure orders against dozens of respondents
- a consortium of Russian energy companies in an investigation and recovery action for a multimillion dollar debt arising from alleged unlawful conduct by the management and shareholders of a private energy sector group
M&A transactions
Representing:
- a leading Russian private business group in a USD 800 million transactions for the acquisition of shares in major Russian power producers TGC-6 and TGC-7 from Inter RAO UES
